When You Die As a Cat is a fairly free wheeling style of documentary that skillfully manages to stay somber and engrossing throughout. Poet Goran Simic left the Bosnian War behind, but struggles with the experiences all new immigrants endure: language barriers, culture barriers and acceptance barriers that just keep popping up everywhere he goes. HOW TO ENTER:
We're looking for your most inspiring poems, either through the eyes of a cat, or about a cat, in regards to the Victoria Film Festival or movies in general. Please feel free to include photos of your cat for visual enhancement to the poem, but is not a necessary component. Tweet your entry @VicFilmFestival or email to

no later than 10am on Monday, January 25th. The poem can be of any length, short or long and can be in any style you prefer. Our staff will then vote for our favourite poem which would be displayed on our website in promotion of When You Die As a Cat.
