The 18th Annual Victoria Film Festival Happens February 3-12, 2012!
Film festivals are a vital part of the film industry and can draw hundreds of film lovers and industry insiders that want to stay on top of the latest movie making trends. Film festivals in general provide a showcase of films that might not otherwise be widely distributed. The films showcased are quirky, fun and informative in ways that wide release screenings just aren’t because they’re so closely tied to big budgets and business interests.
The Victoria Film Festival is the largest showcase of independent films on Vancouver Island and is gathering steam heading into its 18th season. Going to the movies has always been a simple pleasure providing a venue for escape, adventure and thoughtful reflection about the world around us. Our innovative program of Canadian and International documentaries, narrative and short films are guaranteed to entertain and impart a sense of wonder about the world like no other experience.
Add to that a festival atmosphere with its multiple venues, filmmakers in attendance and various parties and you have a community event that is not to be missed.
Why do I have to buy a membership?
Membership has its privileges. Do you know that all the movies you normally see at the theatre have been classified? You know – rated PG or R or G. They have been passed by the B.C. Film Classification board and deemed appropriate for public viewing. In British Columbia the only way to view unclassified films is to be a member of the Society showing the films and be over the age of 18 – that’s the law.
The Victoria Film Festival screens unclassified films. That’s why you have to have a membership and that membership costs $2. Once you’re a member of the Festival Society you can get in to see any of the films at the 2012 Victoria Film Festival.
