Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra, the producer/director team behind 2015’s Oscar nominated Embrace the Serpent, now co-direct this stunning epic revolving around the drug trade in northern columbia. Focusing the clash of old worlds and new, Gallego and Guerra create a crime epic among the best put to screen in the 21st century, channeling elements of The Godfather into a mythic, ethnographic film focusing on the Wayúu indigenous peoples of Columbia.

The decades-spanning tale focuses on Rapayet (José Acosta) who gets caught between the traditional values of his people and the blooming drug trade invading their land. As the battle between honour and greed erupts, traditional values get put to the test as this culture clash threatens to destroy their way of life.

“Imagine “The Godfather” made by dazzling Latin American directors who combine bravura filmmaking with political awareness and a probing social conscience.”

– Kennth Turan, LA Times
