Beauty Between the Lines intricately weaves together the complexities of Erickson’s life, his visionary business, and his iconic buildings, offering a profoundly personal portrait of one of the most influential and celebrated architects of our time. 

While there are many films about Erickson’s building – the end, so to speak – the focus in Beauty Between the Lines is on the means. How was this man shaped, who took up space in his life, who did he need to become to create his buildings? 

Erickson managed chaos, bankruptcy, the world stage and, at times, a heart-rending personal life. Directors Mah and Berish don’t fall into gossip but instead balance true insight with a clear-eyed look at Erickson. Using never seen footage and interviews with cultural heavyweights like Dougals Coupland and Phyllis Lambert the documentary also digs in to find and interview the people who were there in the office working alongside the man. 

Luckily the filmmakers don’t forget the buildings and just when you begin to shake your head about Erickson then they show you the enormity of his talent and it brings a stillness and a warm pleasure to see such remarkable work.  – KK
