Victoria Film Festival Wraps Up With EndFest Award Party!

February 15, 2017

After a jam-packed 10 days, the 2017 Victoria Film Festival is coming to a close.  With the addition of two new venues not even the 2017 snowstorm could hold the Festival back.

The festival began with a screening of Window Horses directed by Vancouver local Ann Marie Fleming followed by the Spring themed Opening Gala Party.  Over 300 people walked the pink carpet to enter the transformed Atrium.  There may have been snow outside on February 3rd, but inside the flowers were blooming.  With the 20 piece Vic High band to delight the ears, guest also enjoyed food from Fat Daddy’s Catering, wine and spirits from De Vine Vineyards, alongside beer and cider from Spinnakers.

Over the past 10 days the Victoria Film Festival has taken over the city and showcased 124 films. With features from 22 countries including the world premiere of local film The Hollow Child by Jeremy Lutter.  Despite the snow, the festival saw over 25,000 attendees, with 35 film sellouts and hosted 60 guests.

To celebrate Canada 150, See @ The Bay was hosted at the Bay Centre for the duration of the festival.  See @ The Bay featured a custom curated Canadian poster exhibit and a limited time pop-up cinema that showcased many of the Canadian Shorts Programs.

On Sunday, the festival announces its award winners and recognizes the outstanding films and filmmakers featured at the 23rd annual festival, including the Cineplex Entertainment Audience Favourite Award, selected by festival attendees. All awards are presented at EndFest celebrating Canadian and international filmmakers and their exceptional work.
