The Victoria Film Festival is hosting its annual FilmCAN Competition for students (grades 2 – 12).

FilmCAN Rules & Regulations:

  • Videos are to be uploaded to the Vimeo group: “FilmCAN Entries 2009 – 2019” by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, December 19, 2018
  • Videos must be between 2-10 minutes in length
  • Indicate whether you are a Jr.-category ( K-Grade 8) or Sr.-category (Grade 9-12) student and which school you attend (if applicable)
  • The competition is open to all students on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands
  • Dec 28, 2018 submissions will be judged based on the number of likes and based on a Victoria Film Festival Jury. The winners will not be announced until the Pre-Festival Bash taking place on January 6, 2019.
  • All entries must have written permission for any copyright material used

Prizes:

Grade 9 – 12:

  • GoPro HERO7 Waterproof 4K Sports/Helmet Camera – courtesy of Prince of Whales Whale Watching
  • A one-year membership to Adobe Creative Cloud valued at CA$ 790 – provided by Adobe
  • 1 full tuition to any 6-day course at Gulf Island Film & Television School program (room & board not included)
  • Have your film screened at the Victoria Film Festival
  • Tickets to attend the screening at the Film Festival in February

Grade 8 & under:

  • $300 tuition for summer program at Gulf Island Film & Television School program (room & board not included)
  • Have your film screened at the Victoria Film Festival
  • Tickets to attend the screening at the Film Festival in February

Both films will be screened at the 25th Victoria Film Festival!

Dates to remember:

Dec 19, 2018 – Deadline to upload videos to FilmCAN site.

Dec 28, 2018 – Top 5 films in each category go to the jury.

January 6, 2019 – Winners announced at Pre-Festival Bash.

Feb 1-10, 2019 – Winners screened during Victoria Film Festival.

Young filmmakers can get assistance from a film professional who can provide suggestions, feedback or even a little help with finding props or locations!
