The Wizard of the Kremlin

136 min | Political Drama / Thriller / Satire

The Wizard of the Kremlin (French: Le Mage du Kremlin) is a 2025 political thriller and dark comedy directed by Olivier Assayas. Based on the best-selling novel by Giuliano da Empoli, the film serves as a satirical exploration of the rise of Vladimir Putin through the eyes of his fictional spin doctor.

The Plot
The story follows Vadim Baranov, a former artist and reality TV producer who becomes the strategic mastermind behind a young KGB agent, Vladimir Putin. Spanning from the chaotic aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse to the consolidation of modern Russian power, the film depicts Baranov transforming political reality into a theatrical performance to maintain the “Tsar’s” image.

Rocketman

121 Min | Dexter Fletcher | The Vic Theatre

Set to the rhythm of his most iconic hits, Rocketman is a “musical fantasy” that follows the incredible transformation of Reginald Dwight—a shy piano prodigy from a small town—into the global superstar Elton John. Far from a standard biopic, the film uses surreal, high-energy musical numbers to tell the story of his breakthrough years in the 1970s, his legendary songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin, and his personal battles with fame and addiction. It is a glitter-filled, flamboyant, and deeply moving look at how a boy from the suburbs became one of the most enduring figures in pop culture.
