Illustrated Legacies: Graveyard of the Pacific reclaims coastal Indigenous history, tracing a continuum from ancient whaling practices to the upheaval of colonial conflict. Relying on oral traditions, and combining documentary form with animation, the film challenges mainstream Eurocentric narratives, centering instead the vibrant lives and cultures of the original stewards of the lands and ocean. Through this lens a complicated history is reframed by the voices of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada’s west coast.
